While there was a Ferrari GTO, the GTO that is referred to in the song is surely the Pontiac GTO, a 1960's & 70's muscle car that's popular with townies. As might be expected from something 'kids out on the West Coast' are into, the GTO the subject of a Ronny and the Daytonas song ('Little GTO').
